Lenovo showcased the laptop with a 17.3-inch Micro-LED1 transparent display, offering a fully edge-to-edge and transparent display.
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, the Chinese company Lenovo presented the innovative ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept – a 17.3-inch laptop with a transparent MicroLED display with a maximum brightness of 1000 nits. It provides transparency up to 55%. The Tom’s Hardware website reported this.
The keyboard is fully touch sensitive, as is the touchpad. When you use a stylus, the laptop automatically recognizes it and allows you to use the entire panel as a large writing or drawing board.
It is also equipped with an unusual webcam, which is located along the base of the laptop and points away from the screen instead of towards the user. This allows apps to see and interact with objects behind the screen.
One of the main problems is that anyone can see what you are doing due to the fact that the cover is transparent. In theory, a privacy mode is possible, which can be turned on if necessary, but it is not available on this laptop model.
For now, Lenovo’s transparent display laptop is still a concept, and we probably won’t see it as a consumer device anytime soon. But according to Tom Butler, executive director of ThinkPad products, the company will develop the technology over the next five years and eventually bring it to market.
It was earlier reported that LG has introduced its first laptop with a foldable flexible screen.
