Over the past eight years, 12 underground points have been created on the Russian border to collect information.
Ukrainian intelligence officers, along with the CIA, have built a network of secret points that will help monitor the actions of the Russian military, listen to their conversations and collect other important information. This was stated in a story published on Sunday, February 25, by The York Times titled Spy War: How the CIA Is Secretly Helping Ukraine Fight Vladimir Putin.
The publication claims that the CIA and other US intelligence agencies provide Ukraine with intelligence for conducting targeted missile strikes, monitor the movements of Russian troops and help maintain spy networks in Russia and other countries.
It is noted that the cooperation started ten years ago and actively continued under three different US presidents.
The so-called Fifth Directorate provided intercepted telephone conversations and other intelligence in the hours after the crash.
The CIA was impressed and made its first major commitment, providing secure communications equipment and special training for members of the agency and two other select units.
The cooperation has turned Ukraine, whose intelligence services have long been seen as compromised by Russia, into one of Washington’s most important intelligence partners in the fight against the Kremlin.
According to the publication, over the past eight years, 12 underground points have been created on the Russian border to collect information.
Analyzing the development of cooperation between the intelligence services, the publication said that the Ukrainians demonstrated their capabilities by collecting intercepted data that helped prove Russia’s involvement in the downing of a plane of Malaysia Airlines in 2014.
However, recently, due to the delay in the adoption of an aid package from the United States, Ukrainian intelligence officials have been asking their American colleagues whether the United States will abandon them.
Referring to Burns’ visit to Kyiv last week, a CIA spokesman said: “We have shown a clear commitment to Ukraine for many years, and this visit is another strong signal that the US commitment will continue .”
Earlier, the head of the CIA, William Burns, who commented on the problems with American aid to Ukraine, warned the United States against “an own goal of historic proportions.”
