The SBU exposed the head of the Main Directorate of Capital Investments of the Ministry of Defense, who illegally enriched himself by almost 14 million UAH in 2022-2023. The press service of the department reported this on Friday, February 23.
It was noted that the official was exposed for corruption with the personal help of the Minister of Defense.
According to the investigation, during two years of a large-scale war, the defendant illegally enriched himself by almost 14 million UAH. Later, with this money, he bought two apartments in new buildings, a garage and a parking space in Kyiv.
In addition, for the “income” received, the official bought three premium cars, including LEXUS and BMW brands.
To hide the acquired property, the officer transferred it to his common-law wife. At the same time, the defendant gave a power of attorney for the management of this property.
Also, during the investigation, it was established that more than 3 million hryvnias were hidden from the declaration, and another 3.5 million hryvnias. the officer kept it from his common-law wife.
Based on military counterintelligence materials from the SBU, an official of the Ministry of Defense was notified of suspicion of illegal enrichment and declaration of false information.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being decided. The investigation is ongoing to determine all the circumstances of the crime.
The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison.
In the past, NABU confirmed the existence of a corruption scheme in the Ministry of Defense, which allows for a significant increase in prices for certain categories of products.
