The S-200 is a long-range anti-aircraft missile system. They began to be developed in the Soviet Union 60 years ago. Subsequently, the complex underwent several modernizations.
In July 2023, the Russians began making statements about attacks on targets in Russia and the occupied territories with missiles from the S-200 complex. According to the Russians, the Ukrainians have redesigned the air defense system for attacks on ground targets and are using 5V28 missiles.
Former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, responsible for the air defense system, Igor Romanenko said that the Ukrainian military practiced in training the use of the S-200 missile against ground targets.
The maximum flight range of the S-200 air defense missile is from 160 to 300 km, depending on the missile model (5V21, 5V21B, 5V28, 5V28M).
The rocket has a length of 11 m and a launch weight of 7.1 tons, of which 3 tons are accelerators (for the S-200V).
Rocket flight speed: 700-1200 m/s depending on range.
Damage zone altitude: from 300 m to 27 km for early and up to 40.8 km for later models.
Depth of the affected area: from 7 km to 200 km for early and up to 255 km for later modifications.
