European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and European Parliament Robert Metzola issued a joint statement on the eve of the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine. “The European Union will continue its strong and stable political, military, financial, economic, diplomatic and humanitarian support to help Ukraine defend itself, protect its people, its cities and critical infrastructure, restore the integrity of its territory, return thousands of deported children and end the war,” the statement said.
EU leaders noted that Ukrainian heroes have shown courage and determination in defending their homeland and fighting for their freedom and common European values, and that the European Union will always support freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
European Union leaders have declared that the beginning of Russia’s long-term aggression against Ukraine began with the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol 10 years ago.
