The CSTO has not yet received official statements from Armenia on the suspension of participation in the organization’s activities.
The Russian side wants to clarify the meaning of the statements about Armenia’s suspension of its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Kremlin Speaker Dmitry Peskov said this on Friday, February 23.
“The Armenian side has not taken any official action in this matter. We mean to contact our colleagues and clarify the meaning of these statements,” he said, commenting on the words of the President Armenian Minister Nikol Pashinyan whose country is frozen. its participation in the CSTO.
He said it’s “very important to understand the details here.”
“And we hope that our Armenian friends will explain everything to us,” Peskov said, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to discuss with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan his constant statements and such interactions are not intended.
In this regard, the CSTO reported that it had not received official statements from Armenia on the suspension of participation in the organization’s activities.
Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia has cooled its participation in the CSTO, but has not considered the issue of withdrawing the Russian military base from its territory. At the same time, the prime minister criticized Russia, which a few months ago “openly called on the Armenian population to overthrow the government.”
Let’s recall that in November 2023, Nikol Pashinyan refused to visit the CSTO meeting in Minsk. Then it was called a demarche by the formal leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
Pashinyan also stated that Armenia is looking for other partners in the field of security, but the country has not yet decided to leave the CSTO.
