After the removal of subsidies, the price of a course of treatment for an ordinary Japanese will increase at least three times.

The Japanese government has reversed its decision to provide public funding for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Starting next month, they will pay for drugs and tests in case they get sick. Xinhua reported this on Wednesday, February 21.

“The Japanese government has decided to stop providing subsidies for drugs for COVID-19 and hospitalization starting next month,” the material said.

It is known that the Japanese will now pay out of their own pockets for treatment for COVID-19, according to their income.

Xinhua recalled that the Japanese government introduced 100% coverage of COVID-19 treatment costs in 2021, but then returned a small fee ($20 to $60) for the course.

“After the elimination of subsidies, the price of a course of treatment for ordinary Japanese will triple,” the newspaper said.

It was made clear that the Government will also waive additional fees for medical institutions that “reserve” hospital beds for patients with COVID-19.

In December, 10 thousand deaths from the coronavirus were recorded in the world.
