Moïse’s widow and former head of government is among more than 50 people charged with the former president’s murder.
The widow of former Haitian President Martine Moïse and former Prime Minister Claude Joseph have been accused of involvement in the assassination of Jovenel Moïse. France24 reported this on Tuesday, February 20.
It is implied that Moise’s widow and Joseph conspired to replace the president. There are 50 other people involved in the case with them.
The judge called for the arrest and trial of the accused.
Joseph denied any involvement in the killing and accused current Prime Minister Ariel Henry of “using the Haitian justice system as a weapon.”
“They failed to kill me and Martine Moise on July 7, 2021, now they are using the justice system to advance their Machiavellian agenda,” Joseph said. “I will not stop my fight against a government that is killing Haitian people.”
Joseph recalled calling for an international investigation while serving as Haiti’s acting prime minister after Moïse’s assassination.
As you know, on the night of July 7, Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in his residence. The attackers also injured his wife, but she survived the attack.
Claude Joseph was appointed interim head of government and declared martial law in the country for 15 days. National mourning was declared at the same time.
Haitian authorities later established that the group of mercenaries who killed President Moïse included at least 28 people – 26 Colombians and two local residents.
