Bulgaria is delaying the delivery of 100 armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian army because the Ministry of Defense has asked NATO to cover transport costs.

The publication Euractiv recalls on February 20 that the decision to send the vehicles was made in parliament more than three months ago and the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense signed an agreement on the supply of armored personnel carriers.
Bulgaria can provide great assistance to Ukraine, but this is being delayed due to the fact that the Ministry of Defense is not working optimally, said MP Ivaylo Mirchev.
Defense Minister Todor Tagarev has been constantly criticized for his slow action.
Bulgaria can help, but it is not happening at the right pace and I hope the situation will improve. We voted for the decision on armored personnel carriers almost three months ago, but after three months we cannot transport a hundred armored personnel carriers from Sofia to Ruse (a city on the Danube in North-East Bulgaria), Mirchev emphasized.
According to Bulgaria’s defense minister, the delay occurred because Sofia was checking whether NATO allies could finance the shipment.
This is not a simple transport operation, because it is necessary to attract a significant number of railway trains, Tagarev said.
