Moscow probably fired Sokolov after the destruction of the large landing ship Caesar Kunikov in the waters of the Black Sea. The so-called Russian military correspondents announced Sokolov’s resignation on February 15th. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet officially confirmed the information about the resignation. The UK Ministry of Defense announced this on the X social network on February 18.
Drawing an analogy with his predecessor Igor Osipov, it can be assumed that this is most likely the result of Ukraine’s success in sinking various ships under his command. Sokolov’s leadership style may also have played a role in his dismissal, the report said.
Intelligence suggests that Sokolov could be replaced by Vice Admiral Sergei Pinchuk, who will serve as acting commander of the Black Sea Fleet. He will remain in this chair until the completion of the internal investigation into the sinking of the Caesar Kunikov.
Let us remind you that on February 14, off the coast of the temporarily occupied Crimea, the large landing ship of the occupiers, Caesar Kunikov, was destroyed. An enemy ship was sunk in the territorial waters of Ukraine near Alupka. The Russian VDK was impressed by the Magura V5 maritime drones.
During the full-scale Russian invasion, the Defense Forces have already destroyed four Russian airborne forces – Saratov, Novocherkassk, Minsk and Tsezar Kunikov. Four more vessels of this type are undergoing repairs.
