During a press conference dedicated to the opening of the Berlinale International Film Festival, a siren suddenly went off on the phone of a member of the competition jury and Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko.

Oksana Stefanovna explained that this was a notification about the end of the air raid warning announced in Kyiv in the morning. This random incident was a stark reminder of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
At the press conference, Zabuzhko also expressed hope that during the 10-day festival she would be able to “educate” her fellow jury member Albert Serra, a Catalan film director who has previously expressed his fascination with politicians Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
According to The Guardian, journalists asked Serra about a 2018 interview in which he spoke favorably of the Russian president. The director found it difficult to give a clear answer.
I think politics is a lot more complicated than saying someone is a good person or a bad person,” Serra said.
According to Zabuzhko, the Catalan director told her that he had ordered her book “The Longest Journey” in Italian. In this book, the writer talks about the causes and prerequisites of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
