A French man has been sentenced to seven days in prison after climbing a skyscraper without any safety equipment.
A French national who climbed a skyscraper without safety equipment has been jailed for seven days by the Melbourne Magistrates Court. The Guardian reported this.
It is known that the incident happened on February 6. Then, 30-year-old Anthony Andolfo climbed the ninth-floor balcony of the Avani building (163 m high) in Melbourne at about 7:50 a.m. and started climbing without ropes, belts or other safety devices. He climbed to the roof of a 55-story building, where he was met by police, firefighters and paramedics.
Andolfo has already served his sentence while incarcerated in Port Phillip Prison.
As for his friend Hugo Frolinger, 25, who filmed the 26-minute climb with a drone, he was convicted last week and fined $3,000 for his role in the incident.
Andolfo’s lawyer, Michael Charalambous, told the court that his client was not looking for fame or more followers on social media.
He said Andolfo, who has experience climbing houses in other countries, filmed his climb to study his technique and share it with other climbers.
However, magistrate Jonathan Klestadt rejected the claim that Andolfo was not seeking fame, saying the 30-year-old was clearly looking for more than an adrenaline rush.
It was previously reported that Jared Leto climbed the Empire State Building in honor of the start of the 30 Seconds To Mars world tour.
