The Verkhovna Rada Committee received a bill on amending the internal policy in the field of veterans.
After the war, about 4 million veterans and members of their families may appear in Ukraine, so Ukrainian law needs to be changed, and society must adapt to such a future. This was stated on Monday, February 12, in the bill card, which should expand the government’s policies regarding war veterans.
The document says that the current version of the Veterans Act does not have provisions for their comprehensive support.
“The current version of the Law of Ukraine” On the Fundamentals of Domestic and Foreign Policy “does not contain the main principles of domestic policy regarding comprehensive support for war veterans, members of their families, family members of fallen (deceased) war veterans, family members of deceased (deceased) Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine, family members of persons missing in connection with armed conflict, hostilities, temporary occupation of part of the territory of Ukraine, family members of people in captivity and wounded participants of the Revolution of Dignity ,” the bill card reads.
In the new version of the law, representatives propose:
-
creating an effective system for the transition from military service to civilian life;
-
honoring the memory of war veterans, Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine and victims of the Revolution of Dignity;
-
promoting the creation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage about Ukrainian military achievements and Ukrainian military strength, disseminating information about objects of such heritage and familiarizing them both in Ukraine and abroad;
-
involving war veterans, Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine and victims of the Revolution of Dignity in national patriotic education;
-
creating conditions for the development of reintegration programs in the communities of war veterans, Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine;
-
promoting the creation of new vectors of social protection for war veterans.
It was previously reported that Ukraine will apply the US experience in developing adaptation programs for veterans. In particular, the adaptation experience of Americans who fought in Vietnam will be considered.
