European partners must consolidate their orders and give the defense industry security of supply for decades to come, the Chancellor said.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for large-scale production of defense equipment in Europe so that it can successfully deter Russian aggression. ZDF wrote this on Monday, February 12.
Scholz reportedly called for increased European defense capabilities at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new ammunition plant for defense concern Rheinmetall.
He invited several European countries to unite and give the defense industry centralized orders for the coming decades.
“We must move away from manufacturing and move to large-scale production of defense equipment,” said the German Chancellor.
He explained that such a strategy is justified when “Russia’s aggressive war in Ukraine and the openly expressed imperial ambitions of President Vladimir Putin have become the main threat to the peace order in Europe.”
“If you want peace, you must successfully stop potential aggressors,” concluded the head of the German government.
