DGA Awards for the documentary film “20 days in Mariupol”. He was recognized for “Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary Filmmaking in 2023.” This is stated on the American Prize website.
The film “20 days in Mariupol” depicts events in Mariupol surrounded by occupiers in February-March 2022. The film included footage of Russian shelling and the bombing of a maternity hospital.
Chernov’s film has already won the Tim Hetherington Award, which is awarded for reporting on humanitarian stories. In addition, the director received a Pulitzer Prize.
As you know, the DGA Awards are an annual American award for outstanding achievements in film and television directing. It was founded in 1948 and throughout its history, the winners of the category “Best Director of a Feature Film” have failed to receive a similar Oscar only seven times. In 2024, the main award went to English director Christopher Nolan for the film Oppenheimer.
Let us remind you that in January of this year it became known that the film “20 days in Mariupol” by Mstislav Chernov was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Documentary Film”.
