After the mobilization of the Russian army in September 2022, medical workers were warned not to leave the territory of the aggressor country. Ultimately, up to 2% of doctors and health workers fled Russia to avoid conscription. Also, up to 3 thousand doctors could be mobilized to provide medical assistance at the Ukrainian front. This is stated in the construction of the British Ministry of Defense on February 11.
The British note that in November last year, the Russian Ministry of Health stated that the country’s medical sector lacks almost 26 thousand 500 doctors and 58 thousand 200 paramedical personnel. In 22 Russian regions the shortage of doctors is significant, and in seven regions it is acute.
In January 2024, it became known that over the previous 15 months the number of doctors in Russia had decreased by 7.5 thousand. Russians do not want to work in this field due to low wages and long working hours.
The heavy resource and financial burden of supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine is negatively impacting a number of civilian sectors serving the Russian population. There are no signs that the downward trend in the number of medical workers in Russia will change during 2024, British intelligence noted.
Let us remind you that the city of Avdeevka is now the site of perhaps the most fierce fighting at the front. British intelligence reported that Russian assaults on the city led to a 90% increase in casualties.
