The protests continue despite Kremlin attempts to censor them and suppress any public movement in support of mobilized Russian soldiers.
Relatives of mobilized Russian soldiers continued to protest throughout Russia: meetings were recorded in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg, reports the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Military analysts say the protests continue despite Kremlin attempts to censor them and suppress any public movement in support of mobilized Russian soldiers.
On February 10, Russian opposition newspapers Sota and Mobilization News published footage showing members of the Russian social movement The Way Home laying flowers and gathering at monuments in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok and Yekaterinburg, calling for the demobilization of their loved ones.
Mobilization News reported that Way Home members also visited Russian presidential candidate Vladislav Davankov’s campaign headquarters in Moscow and handed letters to Davankov’s team demanding demobilization.
Recently, Russian authorities tried to censor a protest by Way Home participants at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow and Manezhnaya Square nearby.
ISW believes that the Kremlin’s attempts to censor and discredit the social movement The Way Home “underscores the Kremlin’s desperate desire to shut down these movements, especially before the Russian presidential election in March 2024.
