The large Cypriot bank Hellenic (the fourth largest bank in Cyprus by assets), after the Bank of Cyprus, began to close the accounts of Russian citizens. This was reported by Main Partner Trust.
It was noted that Hellenic Bank is closing accounts for Russian citizens and operating companies. We are not talking about tax residents of the Russian Federation (their accounts were closed last year), but about Russian citizens living in Cyprus and having Cypriot documents. This week, hundreds of Russians have already received information about the closure of their accounts.
Let’s recall that in December last year the government of Cyprus ordered the island’s banking sector to stop all transactions in the ruble. The investigation into cases of Russians evading international sanctions with the involvement of Cypriot companies is ongoing.
The Republic of Cyprus became the thirtieth state to support security guarantees for Ukraine.
