It is the government that proposes to order 10 more launchers and four fire control centers for the NASAMS air defense system from Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace (KDA).
The investment of the order will amount to NOK 3.45 billion – more than EUR 300 million.
The Norwegian NASAMS system saves the lives of Ukrainians and prevents the destruction of buildings and infrastructure. Russian missile and drone attacks are widespread and brutal, making air defense absolutely crucial for Ukraine,” commented Defense Minister Björn Arild Gramm.
How much equipment under the new order can be delivered to Ukraine is not specified.
In December 2023, the Norwegian government agreed to the transfer of additional NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine for $30 million. Then it was reported that part of the specified equipment would be sent directly from the reserves of the country’s armed forces to ensure speedy delivery to Ukraine, and the rest would be ordered and delivered later.
It was planned to order eight launchers and four control points. The government clarified that the cost of equipment planned for transfer to Ukraine from the stocks of the Norwegian armed forces is equivalent to the cost of the ordered one. Additional launchers and command posts may be included in NASAMS systems already deployed in Ukraine, or new ones will be formed.
