The spokesman of the State Border Guard Service expressed hope that the situation will change in the near future, and traffic will be possible on the Polish side, at least for cars and buses.
In Poland, they started blocking roads leading to Ukrainian border checkpoints. Currently, traffic is completely blocked at the Shegini checkpoint in the Lviv region. This was announced by the representative of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andrey Demchenko, in a telethon on Friday, February 9.
“About 100 people and about 50 vehicles blocked the road to the border. They are in a place a few hundred meters from the checkpoint. And so far there is no movement either leaving Poland or entering Poland . Like for trucks, and for cars and buses,” he said.
The representative of the State Border Guard Service expressed hope that this situation will change in the near future, and traffic will be possible on the Polish side, at least for cars and buses.
According to him, in the other two directions – Rava-Russkaya and Yagodin – so far, the border guards have not received information from their Polish colleagues about the initiation of blocking actions.
We remind you that a week ago the Polish farmers announced a new nationwide strike and blockade of the Ukrainian border. It will start on February 9 and last until March 10.
On December 23, Polish farmers stopped protesting at the Ukrainian border to negotiate with the new government. Then they asked for a subsidy for the purchase of corn, to keep the tax at the current year’s level and to continue lending liquidity.
And on January 31, the European Commission proposed the extension of visa-free economic travel with Ukraine for another year. At the same time, Brussels plans to create a “strengthened safety net” to protect the interests of European farmers.
