We are talking about high-tech computer numerical control (CNC) machines, machining centers, turning, milling and grinding machines.
Taiwan has added 77 items of high-tech industrial machinery to the list of goods it is forbidden to export to Russia and Belarus to prevent their use in the production of weapons in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the Taiwanese Ministry of Economy, CNA reports.
The decision will take effect in one month, on March 8. Equipment added to the new export control list includes high-tech computer numerical control (CNC) machines, machining centers, lathes, milling machines and grinders.
It noted that Taiwan’s government began introducing controls on the export of high-precision machine tools to Russia and Belarus last year and has continued to expand their list alongside sanctions from the EU, the United States and Japan.
The value of exports to Russia of the 77 goods added to the banned list last year reached $45 million, which is about 1% of Taiwan’s total exports to the Russian Federation.
The Ministry also appealed to Taiwanese manufacturers exporting products to Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to include in agreements with partners from these countries their obligations not to transfer Taiwanese products to Russia and Belarus.
Taiwan’s government fears that if information about Russia’s use of machine tools on the island for weapons production is confirmed, its main partners from Germany and Japan may refuse to supply parts to Taiwan, which will cause great losses to the machine tool. industry.
In the past, the media wrote that Russia imported machine tools from Taiwan for the military-industrial complex.
