As the DBI reported on February 6, according to the investigation, Kuzmin has been distributing propaganda materials on social networks since March 2021 and after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He also published such information in the media, on his website, and voiced it in speeches.
Under the relevant article, Kuzmin faces up to 15 years in prison.
During Yanukovych’s presidency, Kuzmin was Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (2013-2014), and previously First Deputy Prosecutor General (2010-2013).
After the Revolution of Dignity, Kuzmin fled Ukraine and was put on the wanted list. But this did not prevent him from being elected as a people’s deputy from the OPZZh in the 2019 elections, after which he was removed from the search list.
On October 5, 2022, the State Bureau of Investigation informed Kuzmin of suspicion of treason.
In January of this year, the president deprived Kuzmin of Ukrainian citizenship by decree. In the same month, the Verkhovna Rada deprived Kuzmin of his mandate as a people’s deputy.
