The department criticized the level of veracity of the evidence and recalled that Russia traditionally spreads disinformation.
The US State Department does not believe Russia’s claims about the downed Il-76. State Department spokesman Vedant Patel made the announcement at a briefing on Monday, February 5.
He remembered that Russia often spreads lies.
“This is the same level of truth of evidence as when Russia claims that Crimea is its own or that all the territory it occupies in Ukraine is its own,” he said about the downing of the Il-76.
Patel added that Ukraine should speak about the facts, and also that Russia traditionally spreads disinformation.
As you know, on January 24, an Il-76 military plane crashed in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that there were alleged Ukrainian prisoners on the plane being taken for exchange. At the same time, the Ukrainian media said that the Il-76 was carrying missiles for the S-300 complexes.
Later, the Main Intelligence Directorate confirmed that a prisoner exchange was supposed to take place on January 24, but it never happened.
