SkyNews reports this with reference to a statement from Buckingham Palace.
What type of cancer was discovered in the 75-year-old monarch is not specified.
It is noted that it was diagnosed after treatment of benign prostate enlargement.
It was during this intervention that a separate problem was discovered that caused concern and was subsequently diagnosed as a form of cancer, the statement said.
At the same time, Buckingham Palace claims that the king does not have prostate cancer.
This second illness will now receive appropriate treatment, the statement said.
Doctors advised the monarch to suspend any public appearances. It is noted that he is “positive about his treatment and looks forward to an early return to his government duties.”
His Majesty decided to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope that it will help society understand all those suffering from cancer around the world, Buckingham Palace said.
