An adviser to the American leader called the new Republican initiative a “fraud” and noted that it would not receive Biden’s approval.
US President Joe Biden won’t sign House Republicans’ bill to help Israel without help from Ukraine. Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said this on Sunday, February 4, in an interview with NBC News.
Citing Israel’s “dangerous circumstances,” House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, announced Saturday a separate aid bill for the country that would exclude support for Ukraine. He intends to vote on the document this week.
Asked whether the president would sign such a bill if it came to his desk, Sullivan called the Republican move a “topic.”
“We believe this is a ploy. And we see that this ploy on the part of the House of Representatives is not a serious effort to address the national security challenges facing America,” Sullivan said.
Earlier, the White House criticized attempts by Republicans in the House of Representatives to pass a military support bill for Israel regardless of aid to Ukraine and other urgent needs. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre called the move a “cynical maneuver” and a “deception.”
