The European Union assumes leadership and responsibility in supporting Ukraine, said Charles Michel.
European Union leaders at an extraordinary meeting of the European Council approved the allocation of 50 billion euros for Ukraine under the Ukraine Facility program. This was announced by the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Twitter on Thursday, February 1st.
“We agreed. All 27 leaders agreed on an additional support package for Ukraine of €50 billion within the EU budget. This provides permanent, long-term, dedicated funding for Ukraine. The EU takes leadership and responsibility in supporting Ukraine; we know what has been delivered on the card,” wrote Michel.
As you know, in December 2023, Viktor Orban vetoed the “mega-package”, which included 50 billion euros for Ukraine over four years, costs for migration programs, funding for EU Solidarity Fund and Defense. EU leaders returned to consider this document on February 1.
The media also reported that the European Union is ready to exclude Viktor Orban from the bloc’s voting process if he continues to obstruct the allocation of aid to Ukraine.
