“Putin’s imperialist ambitions” will not end in Ukraine and Putin wants to continue expanding the borders, they believe in Berlin.
Germany has increased military spending to a record 72 billion euros. The head of the German Ministry of Defense, Boris Pistorius, announced this on Wednesday, January 31, writes Tagesschau.
He noted that it was the first time in a decade that NATO’s demand to “spend at least two percent of economic output on defense” was met.
“Defense spending accounts for 2.1 percent of economic output. This includes billions of dollars in payments from the Bundeswehr special fund, created after Russia’s attack on Ukraine at a cost of 100 billion euros, ” he says.
The head of the department explained that Germany was forced to spend more money on defense, because, most likely, “Putin’s imperialist ambitions” will not end in Ukraine and Putin will strive to continue expanding its borders.
“Therefore, German support for Ukraine must continue. At the same time, the defense capabilities of the Bundeswehr must also be expanded again,” Pistorius emphasized.
“We need a strong Bundeswehr that acts as a deterrent,” Pistorius said.
Let’s recall that at a meeting in the Ramstein format, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced the provision of six Sea King helicopters to Ukraine.
