The SBI completed the investigation into the explosions in the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv in July 2023. Then the defendant Igor Gumenyuk carried explosives into the courtroom and blew himself up.

Gumenyuk was able to bring homemade explosive devices into the courthouse due to the negligence of the staff of the pre-trial detention center and the convoy service. They did not search the defendant’s personal belongings (including his backpack) after they took him out of his cell.
They were not even surprised by the fact that at a temperature of +28, the person whom they escorted from the pre-trial detention center to the court was wearing a warm sweater,” the DBI said in a statement.
During the searches, glycerin, rosin, electrical wires and other chemicals were found on Gumenyuk, some of which were part of the explosives.
Indictments against six employees of the Kyiv detention center were sent to the court. They face from three to five years in prison.
Let us recall that on July 5, 2023, homemade explosive devices detonated in the convoy room of the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv.
The explosion was committed by the defendant held in the Kiev Pretrial Detention Center. Due to the explosion, he was killed, two employees of the special unit of the National Police of Ukraine were injured, and the premises and property of the court were also significantly damaged.
Who is Gumenyuk?
Gumenyuk was born in 1994. He was from the city of Kamenets-Podolsky, Khmelnitsky region. Gumenyuk was an active student. And when the Revolution of Dignity began, I was on the Maidan.
After Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014, the 20-year-old guy volunteered to go to the front and fought as part of the Sich battalion. He took part in the battles in Kurakhovo and Peski.
On August 31, 2015, an extraordinary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was held, at which deputies wanted to adopt a draft law on amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in the first reading. The discussion was about a special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This was part of Ukraine’s obligations under the Minsk agreements.
On that day, the VO “Svoboda” organized a protest rally near the premises of the Verkhovna Rada. The protesters demanded that the controversial bill not be passed.
On August 31, 2015, unknown persons threw a grenade towards the National Guard, which killed four soldiers. Many more were injured. 21-year-old Igor Gumenyuk and another fighter were accused of this. The suspect explained that he was on vacation at the time and took part in a protest. He denied his guilt.
