However, reconstruction will begin only after the full launch of traffic on the Podolsky Bridge, Liga reports.
In 2023, the Ministry of Infrastructure completed the construction of the ramps of the Darnitsky Bridge on the left bank, and the Kyiv authorities built one of the left bank ramps of the Podolsky Bridge, and are also building a second one.
Kyiv is actively completing the construction of the Podolsko-Voskresensky Bridge. I think as soon as they start normal traffic on it, they will begin to close the bridges for major repairs,” said one of the government officials.
In his opinion, this will not entail a transport collapse in Kyiv, because the Podolsky Bridge will be able to take on part of the traffic. Experts interviewed by the League, such as engineer Dmitry Bespalov, also believe that there will be no collapse on the roads – at least when people get used to closing bridges.
The Metro Bridge has been in operation since 1965. It was the world’s first arched structure with large purlins, designed on dry joints. During the inspection, the government commission found that one of the bridge’s cables had broken. Because of this, traffic was restricted by weight and freight traffic was prohibited on the bridge.
The Paton Bridge was put into operation back in 1953 and is under state custody as a monument of architecture and urban planning of local importance. This is the world’s first all-welded bridge with a length of 1 thousand 543 m. The structure has been in disrepair for the seventh year. In the summer of 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated UAH 35 million for the restoration of the Paton Bridge.
