The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has announced his resignation from the position of head of government. This was reported by NewsGeorgia on Monday, January 29.
“I want to inform the public about the decision discussed in the team. Today I will leave the post of prime minister,” said Garibashvili in a briefing.
This is Garibashvili’s second resignation from the post of prime minister. He first headed the government of Georgia in 2013, replacing Bidzina Ivanishvili, and resigned on December 30, 2015. He became the Prime Minister of Georgia again on February 22, 2021, replacing Giorgi Gakharia.
Georgian media have called the leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, a possible successor to Garibashvili.

Earlier, Georgia’s ruling party announced the removal of President Salome Zurabishvili.
