The head of state would like the money that different countries provide as social assistance to Ukrainian refugees to be provided to Ukraine. And the Ukrainian authorities already independently distributed this money among the refugees. Zelensky is confident that in this way the Ukrainian economy can be supported. He stated this in an interview with the German television channel ARD.
According to the journalist, about 200 thousand Ukrainian men fled from Ukraine to Germany from the war. She asked Zelensky whether monetary assistance to Ukrainians liable for military service abroad should be reduced in order to support the state with these funds.
If the government wants to help Ukrainians, then there is such a moment – for example, some person left and is abroad and receives support from Germany. And we thank you for supporting our citizens. But it happens that this person receives support from both you and us. Well, it happens. I’m not talking about our Ukrainians in Germany now. I’ll summarize this for you. And that’s why I have always said that it would be much better for us if Germany supported Ukrainians by giving money to Ukraine’s budget, and then Ukraine would redistribute this money depending on where this person is located,” the president noted.
Zelensky explained his words by saying that most of the Ukrainians’ money remained in Europe, because citizens exported their wealth when they fled from the war. And then Europe began to support Ukrainians in Europe, and all the money that went to support Ukrainians remained abroad and in the economy of one state or another.
Let us remind you that in November, the German Federal Employment Agency stated that only 19% of Ukrainian refugees aged 18 to 64 years work in Germany. And this is only 2% more than a year ago.
