The head of the Catholic Church called for a humanitarian response to the tragic reality.
Pope Francis recalled Ukraine again during his meeting on Sunday at the Vatican with pilgrims. He called for a prayer for peace. Vatican News reported this on Sunday, January 28.
The Pontiff also mentioned the situation in Gaza, where “very serious and painful” news is coming.
“Let us not forget our brothers and sisters who are suffering because of war, in Ukraine, Palestine and Israel, as well as in other conflict zones,” Pope Francis said.
The pope recalled that thousands of migrants try to cross the Darien forest between Colombia and Panama, pointing out that they are often “families with children who decide on dangerous routes, deceived by who falsely promise them a short and safe route, and who are subjected to cruel treatment and robbery,” and many “lost their lives in this jungle.”
He called for a joint effort “to ensure that this tragic reality does not go unnoticed, and to jointly provide a humanitarian response to it.”
Let’s remember that earlier the Pope criticized Europe for the fact that countries do not offer “creative ways” to end the war in Ukraine. The Pope’s envoy, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, called on the EU to make more efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
