The drone strike killed three US soldiers and wounded 25 others.
At least three US troops were killed and 25 others wounded in a drone strike on a US base on the Jordan-Syria border. This was said in a statement by US President Joe Biden.
According to him, although the collection of facts continues, it is definitely known that the attack was carried out by radical militant groups in Syria and Iraq, supported by Iran. In this regard, Biden emphasized that such attacks will not stop the United States in its mission to fight terrorism.
“You can be sure that we will hold all those responsible accountable at that moment and in the way that we see fit,” Biden added, expressing his condolences to the victims’ relatives.
The names of the dead and wounded American military personnel have not been released.
Let’s recall that the night before Tuesday, January 16, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched strikes on targets in Iraq and Syria. The Iranian side claimed that “ballistic missiles were used to destroy the spy centers and concentrations of anti-Iranian terrorist groups in the region at night.” Specifically, the target of the strike was allegedly “the spy headquarters of the Israeli Mossad in Iraqi Kurdistan.”
Let’s add that the US Embassy in the Iraqi capital Baghdad was attacked by rockets on December 8, 2023. No one was killed. There were reported indications that the strike was carried out by militants linked to Iran.
