Legalizing cocaine “will benefit everyone,” the city’s mayor said. He is convinced that the fight against drug trafficking is pointless.

Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema is proposing to legalize the sale and use of cocaine in the city in a bid to disrupt the economy of criminal enterprises that she says generate “billions” in revenue, Bloomberg writes.
“Let me conclude that hundreds of years of frustration and repression have achieved little. It turns out that people have a need for stimulants. There is a market for it,” he said in an interview.
Halsema emphasized that drug markets must be regulated to disrupt the revenue model of “unscrupulous criminals.”
At the same time, he explained that he is not in favor of the “hasty legalization” of cocaine, but in favor of its regulation. In particular, this is already happening in the pilot project of the Dutch government for the cultivation of cannabis, where it is legally provided in cafes.
The number of cocaine seizures in the Netherlands rose last year, according to government data. The largest quantities of cocaine were found in the ports of Rotterdam and Vlissingen, and the trade also increased in Dutch airports.
We remind you that DBI employees completed a pre-trial investigation against three law enforcement officers from the Odessa region who tracked down drug dealers and took money from them without registering proceedings in crime
It was also reported that a drug laboratory was exposed in Kyiv and the sale of illicit “goods” worth nearly UAH 50 million was documented.
