India wants to abandon Russian weapons and distance itself from the aggressor country.

    .

The world’s largest arms importer is slowly moving away from Russian weapons and returning to the West.

Over the past 20 years, the Russian Federation has supplied 65% of the weapons that India purchased for more than $60 billion. However, the war in Ukraine has accelerated the push to diversify its weapons base. Moscow is publicly calling on New Delhi to cooperate, but the Indian authorities want to strengthen domestic production. In addition, in 2023, India and the United States signed a defense agreement, in particular, the joint production of engines for fighter jets. This was reported by Reuters.

The material says that India will have to “walk a fine line” in relations with the Russian Federation, since the cessation of cooperation will push the aggressor country towards even closer cooperation with China. Also, Indian authorities are not confident that Russia will be able to continue to supply spare parts for military equipment as the war in Ukraine drags on.

It was previously reported that against the backdrop of a global decline in oil demand and taking into account the diversification of supplies, India expects Russia to provide greater discounts on its energy resources than it does now. Experts say discounts now range from $4 to $6. per barrel, and 10-12 dollars are expected.
