Greece has agreed to the US State Department’s proposal to transfer or sell arms to Ukraine in exchange for Washington’s $200 million aid, the Greek publication Kathimerini reported on Saturday, January 27.
It was noted that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakis Mitsotakis ordered the transfer to Ukraine of systems and equipment not used by the Greek army.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent a letter to Greek Prime Minister Kiriakis Mitsotakis with a proposal to transfer or sell weapons in exchange for Washington’s $200 million aid.
“We continue to be interested in defense capabilities that Greece may transfer or sell to Ukraine. If these capabilities are of interest to Ukraine and until the US government assesses their status and value, we may explore the possibility of possible additional funding for the Greek military in the amount of up to $200 million”, the publication quoted Blinken’s letter as saying.
The letter states that under the expedited EDA process, Greece will receive two C-130H aircraft, ten P-3 aircraft engines and 60 Bradley armored fighting vehicles. Athens will also receive up to 40 new F-35 aircraft, three Protector-class patrol ships and various vehicles.
