Russia’s invasion of the territory of a sovereign neighboring country has completely disrupted the international order.
Former NATO chief and British Defense Secretary George Robertson called on allies to increase aid to Ukraine and increase production of arms and ammunition in Europe. He said this on Friday, January 26, in an interview with Sky news.
Commenting on the agreement on security guarantees between Ukraine and the UK, Robertson noted that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, should receive tangible multi-year commitments to Kiev at a time when the invasion of Russia is rising.
“We have to keep Ukraine at the top of the agenda because they are fighting for us there. I want a multi-year commitment, the only thing the Kremlin listens to is how many years we can be with the Ukrainians,” he said.
The former Secretary General of NATO emphasized that Russia’s aggression has destroyed the international order, and Putin will not stop at Ukraine alone.
“If Putin managed to swallow up a country of 44 million people right in the middle of Europe, he wouldn’t stop. That’s how they fight us, so I think we need to increase the production of weapons and ammunition so that the Ukrainians are now getting weapons,” Robertson said. .
Earlier, Vladimir Putin made a cynical statement that in 2014, the war in Ukraine seems to have been started by the United States, and not by Russia, which annexed Ukrainian Crimea and started a hybrid war in Donbass.
Sunak announced that the UK would provide £2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
Ukraine and Great Britain signed a security agreement.
