David Arakhamia, in a conversation with Lb.ua, said that the losses “are not as great as people imagine,” and much less than 100 thousand. He voiced this in the context of mobilization and a distorted perception of military service. Ukraine’s losses in the war are a state secret.
When you go to the streets and ask people about losses, I have never heard less than 100 thousand. And our losses are much less,” noted the head of the Servant of the People faction.
The military command does not disclose Ukraine’s losses in the war with Russia. This was explained, in particular, by the fact that the data could help the enemy.
Let us recall that in August 2023, The New York Times, citing American officials, estimated the total number of wounded and killed military personnel from Ukraine and Russia at almost 500 thousand, most of them Russians.
According to estimates from the “Book of Memory of Those Who Fallen for Ukraine” project, published in mid-November 2023, at least 30 thousand Ukrainian soldiers have died since February 24, 2022. Up to 100,000 more troops were wounded, but most of them are on duty or will soon return to duty.
The last time the Ukrainian authorities announced approximate loss figures was in April 2023. The then Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov said that the losses of Ukrainian troops in the war were “critically less” than the Russian ones and did not exceed the number of victims of the February earthquake in Turkey, where 50 thousand people died.
