The attackers appropriated 32 barges of the enterprise’s merchant fleet for a total amount of more than 80 million UAH. The deal was brokered by two ex-elects and a former head of a shipping company. Law enforcement officers exposed a large-scale scheme of theft of property of the state company “Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company”. The press center of the Security Service of Ukraine reported this on January 25.
It turned out that in 2017 they entered into several agreements between the shipping company and a controlled company for the rental of the above-mentioned vessels. Subsequently, the exchanges were taken out of Ukraine, their license plates were changed and these vessels were fictitiously re-registered to an affiliated company.
Subsequently, the barges ended up in one of the countries of the Middle East, where they were dismantled and 12 vessels of greater carrying capacity were manufactured. Subsequently, the defendants used these ships for their own commercial purposes. They were also used in Ukraine, but under a different registration.
The location of the vessels has already been established, these barges have been arrested. All persons involved were informed of suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 190 (fraud committed by an organized criminal group on an especially large scale), part 5 of Art. 191 (taking possession of someone else’s property using one’s official position) and Part 3 of Art. 209 (transactions with property obtained as a result of committing a socially dangerous illegal act that preceded the legalization (laundering) of income, committed by an organized group on a particularly large scale) of the Criminal Code. They face up to 12 years in prison.
Let us remind you that on January 5, the court arrested one of the founders of the Kievguma company, which during 2022-2023 transported batches of tactical tourniquets and bandages of its own production to Russia for a total amount of more than 40 million UAH. The Russians sent the goods of this company to military hospitals located in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
