The temporary protection mechanism gives refugees from Ukraine the same rights to work, social and medical services, and education as citizens of EU countries.
In Bulgaria, the government extended temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 2025. Novinite reported this.
It was noted that in accordance with the decision of the European Commission, the Council of Ministers announced the continuation of the temporary protection of displaced Ukrainians on the territory of Bulgaria. The extension, which will take effect on March 4, 2024, will last for one year and reflects a continued commitment to support refugees fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
The temporary protection mechanism gives refugees from Ukraine the same rights to work, social and medical services, and education as citizens of EU countries. Protection is contained in an EU directive.
We remind you that at an informal meeting of the ministers of justice and internal affairs of the EU countries, the issue of alternatives to temporary protection, which was specifically created by the European Union for Ukrainians who traveled abroad country because of the war, will be raised.
Earlier, Politico reported that Ukraine was negotiating with the EU to establish EU migration rules that would help ensure more Ukrainians return home by 2025.
The Ukrainian government denied this information, saying that Ukraine’s principled position is that Ukrainians in the EU should have the right to temporary protection.
