The Security Service, together with the Office of the Prosecutor General and in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, prevented the theft of public funds allocated for the purchase of artillery shells for the army. Almost 1.5 billion UAH, which were illegally transferred abroad during the purchase of wholesale quantities of ammunition, were returned to the budget. The SBU press center reported this on January 25.
Law enforcement officials exposed this deal in December last year. Then the organizer of this scheme, who turned out to be the head of one of the main departments of the Ministry of Defense, was also detained. The official tried to embezzle budget funds allocated under government orders for the needs of the Defense Forces.
To do this, the attacker organized a transfer of almost 1.5 billion UAH from the balance sheet of the Moscow Region to the foreign accounts of an affiliated intermediary company. for the purchase of artillery shells. This amount was 30% higher than the cost of another, alternative contract, which was concluded by the newly created Defense Procurement Agency at that time.
The official has already been informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, part 2 art. 114-1 (obstruction of the legitimate activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, committed by prior conspiracy of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Those involved in the crime face up to 15 years in prison.
Let us remind you that a businessman from Kharkov, together with his accomplices, planned to illegally export equipment for MiG-29 fighters from Ukraine. They wanted to sell a batch of spare parts for aircraft engines to Asian customers for almost UAH 2.5 million.
