This happened at a press conference after the Australian Open quarter-final match.
I went out onto the court, read the news before the match and assumed that there would be a strong rocket attack. When the match ended, I watched the news over and over again. I don’t know how many missiles came. It just happened. But yes, I wrote to people in Kyiv, asking if everything was okay. They responded that they were simultaneously looking at the score of the match and where the missiles were flying,” Kostyuk said at a press conference.
Kostyuk lost to American Coco Goff in a three-hour match on the morning of January 23. The tennis players played a 3-set match, the first two games ended in tiebreaks: (6:7(6), 7:6(3), 2:6).
Throughout the Australian Open tournament, all Ukrainian tennis players reminded at press conferences and on the court about the war in Ukraine, as well as the need to exclude Russians from competitions.
Ukrainians Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska played in the quarterfinals of the Grandslam for the first time – this is a personal record for tennis players.
The pair Linda Noskova (Czech Republic) – Dayana Yastremskaya (Ukraine) will play on January 24.
Let us remind you that on the morning of January 23, Russian missiles were shot down over Kiev again.
