A sovereign Ukraine is essential for global world security, Lloyd Austin emphasized.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin opened the 18th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, held online. The Pentagon announced this on Tuesday, January 23.
In his opening remarks, Austin called on Ramstein participants to provide Ukraine with “a more significant ground-based air defense and interception system” as Vladimir Putin “continues to sacrifice staggering numbers of Russian troops in his ill-considered and reckless war of choice.”
“If we lose our composure, if we fail, if we don’t stop other potential aggressors, we’re just going to cause more bloodshed and more chaos,” Austin said.
Thus, a sovereign Ukraine is essential for global security, the Pentagon chief emphasized.
At the same time, Lloyd Austin reiterated that there was no evidence of “misuse or illegal redirection of American equipment provided to Ukraine.”
As you know, the current meeting in the Ramstein format is taking place against the backdrop of uncertainty in the US Congress, which has not yet approved the request of President Joe Biden, which includes more than $60 billion for Ukraine for 2024.
We remind you that on November 22, 2023, a meeting was held in the Ramstein-17 format. Then new aid packages were announced for Ukraine, containing shells, missiles and capabilities to strengthen air defense.
