On January 22, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected a new president – PACE is headed by Greek politician Theodoros Roussopoulos.
Theodoros Roussopoulos, who has been the 35th president of PACE since 1949, called to punish the Russian Federation for military aggression against Ukraine. It was reported to the officer page PACE on social network X.
It was noted that Theodoros Roussopoulos, in his opening speech as the head of the international organization, said that the priority in his work is to hold Russia accountable for the war against Ukraine.
“We have all witnessed the cruel and unjust attack of Russia, which was then a member of this Council, on an independent country – Ukraine. Since then, the people of Ukraine, and especially the children, have suffered, which lives every day in fear of death, and not in the hope of happiness. I will not surprise you if I say that during my presidency, ensuring accountability for the terrible crimes committed in the territory of Ukraine will be my priority,” said Theodoros Roussopoulos.
He added that he will also focus on other challenges: the indiscriminate expansion of artificial intelligence, climate change on the planet, as well as professional, economic and gender equality.
The new president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is the representative of Greece, Theodoros Roussopoulos from the European People’s Party.
Let’s remember that in October 2023, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recognized Russia as a dictatorship. The adopted resolution also calls for recognizing Vladimir Putin as illegitimate after the expiration of his current presidential term.
