DBI officials detained the son of Lviv businessman Igor Grinkevich Roman. Ukrainians ignored the high-profile case and made a batch of memes.
The State Bureau of Investigation on the morning of January 22 in Odessa detained the son of Lviv businessman Igor Grinkevich Roman. Law enforcement officials call him the fifth member of a criminal organization that supplied the Ukrainian Armed Forces with low-quality clothing worth a billion hryvnias. The remaining four accomplices are in custody.
Grinkevich’s fraud
On December 29, law enforcement officers detained one of the largest suppliers of the Ministry of Defense, Lviv businessman Igor Grinkevich, for attempting to bribe one of the heads of the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigation for $500,000. The businessman offered a bribe for help in returning property seized from companies under his control during the investigation of one of the criminal proceedings.
It later emerged that this case was opened based on transactions involving the purchase of clothing and linen for Ukrainian military personnel. It turns out that Igor Grinkevich’s companies, previously involved in construction, won 23 tenders to supply the Ministry of Defense with clothing worth more than UAH 1.5 billion.
Since the enterprises did not have the necessary production, warehouse and other capacities for the production of clothing for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Grinevich tore up almost all contracts. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense, according to the agreements, transferred 1.2 billion hryvnias to business companies.
Later, the businessman decided that since his construction companies could not sew clothes, he would buy goods in Turkey. As a result, 60% of government funds went directly to Grinkevich’s personal account, and 40% went to the purchase of goods. Moreover, foreign goods do not meet any quality standards.
On January 17, the State Bureau of Investigation announced suspicions against members of a criminal organization headed by Igor Grinkevich. We are talking about the businessman himself, his son Roman and three other heads of the companies they control.
On January 18, the court opted for preventive measures for the defendants in the case. That same day, the State Bureau of Investigation placed Roman Grinkevich on the wanted list. Law enforcement officials explained that they suspect him of fraud on a large scale under martial law, as well as participation in a criminal organization.
However, on January 19, the DBI said that they could not detain Grinkevich Jr., because there was not enough evidence for it.
What is known about Roman?
28-year-old Roman Grinkevich is a co-owner of several companies involved in the investigation into theft of the procurement of the Ministry of Defense. According to the YouControl analytical system, he is now the owner of two companies – LLC Construction Alliance Montazhproekt, LLC Electro Agrotekhnika and charitable foundations HopeUA.
Grinkevich Jr. is also committed to the famous artist Sonya Morozyuk, to whom he was proposed during the summer in Venice, where he went as a volunteer. However, in the midst of a corruption scandal, Sonya left her beloved.
The girl on social networks began to make excuses that she met Roman for only five months and did not receive real estate as a gift from him. However Agency for finding and managing stolen property ARMA reported on January 11 that it found all the real estate and expensive cars of the Grinkevich family. Among them are two apartments owned by Sofia Morozyuk.
“Moving” to Odessa
Today, the head of the State Bureau of Investigation, Alexey Sukhachev, said that Roman Grinkevich managed to hide from justice for several days. Specifically, the suspect moved to Odessa around January 17.
Prosecutor General Andrei Kostin added that, according to the investigation, the suspect tried to negotiate illegal travel abroad in order to then hide from the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine in one of the EU countries. On January 19, at the request of prosecutors, the court granted permission to detain him.
Now Grinkevich Jr. is expected to be brought to court. to choose a preventive measure.
