Theodoros Roussopoulos became the 35th President of PACE since 1949 and the first Greek citizen to hold this position.
The representative of Greece, Theodoros Roussopoulos from the European People’s Party, became the new president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). About that reported PACE press service on Monday, January 22.
“Congratulations to Theodoros Roussopoulos of Greece, who has been elected President of the Assembly!” – said the message.
It is indicated that Roussopoulos is the 35th President of PACE since 1949 and the first Greek citizen to hold this position.
His term of office is one year and can be extended for another 365 days.
Previously, the position of PACE President was held by Tini Cox from the Netherlands. He led the organization for two consecutive years.
Let’s remember that in October 2023, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recognized Russia as a dictatorship. The adopted resolution also calls for recognizing Vladimir Putin as illegitimate after the expiration of his current presidential term.
