At the meeting in Riga, representatives of the Baltic countries discussed not only national security issues, but also their actions within NATO.
Baltic defense ministers have agreed to create defense zones on their eastern borders to counter a possible Russian invasion. Radio Liberty reported this today, January 19.
Estonia will build around 600 fortified bunkers along the border, Lithuania and Latvia will also build protective structures.
The advisor to the Estonian Ministry of Defense Kaido Tiitus said that in Estonia the line of bunkers will run along the borders with the Leningrad and Pskov regions of the Russian Federation.
“Each bunker accommodates up to 10 military personnel and can withstand a direct hit from a 152 mm caliber projectile,” the publication said.
According to estimates, the construction will cost around 60 million euros.
Lithuania and Latvia will also join the defense initiative. At the meeting in Riga, representatives of the Baltic countries discussed not only national security issues, but also their actions within NATO, because for NATO these three countries are the only Baltic defense zone.
Let’s remember that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is creating the information conditions for the upcoming escalation against the Baltic countries. Putin said that Latvia and other Baltic countries are “throwing out ethnic Russians” from their countries and that this situation “directly affects the security of Russia.”
