This was reported by the publication “Public”.
It is noted that:
- At first, Mazepa’s defense asked the judge to broadcast the hearing on the court’s official resources. However, he rejected the request, arguing that there were journalists in the hall, already conducting an online broadcast;
- the lawyers also petitioned to disqualify the prosecutor, but the court refused this too;
- Subsequently, the defense asked for a few hours break, citing the fact that the lawyers did not have enough time to examine the materials in more detail. However, the prosecution objected, the court sided with the prosecutors and rejected the lawyers;
- After this, the lawyers announced the recusal of the judge because they consider him biased. The prosecutor stated that this statement showed that the trial was being dragged out;
- Finally, the court stayed the case pending a decision on the challenge.
Subsequently, a court hearing was held to select a preventive measure for brother Igor Mazepa, who also received suspicion. The judge was the same one whose recusal Mazepa’s lawyers asked for.
At the hearing against the brother, the court also refused a request for more time to prepare for the hearing, after which the defense filed a motion to disqualify the judge, also allegedly because the court was biased.
The lawyer of businessman Igor Mazepa commented on the article that he is accused of. He says that with these accusations the investigation “almost equates a businessman and investor with a thief in law”
