The European Union has begun discussing a new package of sanctions against Russia, which it plans to approve before February 24, the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Bloomberg reported this, citing sources, on Friday, January 19.
The new sanctions were said to have been discussed at a meeting of EU ambassadors on Wednesday, where member states agreed on how best to support Ukraine in the long term.
At the same time, the agency believes that reaching an agreement on the 13 sanctions package within a certain time frame will not be easy, as the previous package required very long negotiations.
“Potential measures could include additional lists, additional trade restrictions and an end to Moscow’s additional ability to circumvent the bloc’s sanctions by both third countries and EU companies, according to people familiar with the matter. in this matter,” it said.
