Estonia will not extend the residence permit of the head of the Estonian Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Evgeniy (Valery Reshetnikov), since he poses a threat to the security of Estonia. His current residence permit expires on February 6, after which he must leave Estonia. The Police and Border Guard Department has already sent a corresponding decision to Reshetnikov.
This was announced by the Police and Border Guard Department, Postimees reports.
The state decided to refuse to renew the residence permit, since Reshetnikov, in his public activities, in particular in public speeches, supports the actions of the aggressor and has not changed his line of behavior, despite the warnings that he received earlier, explained the head of the border guard bureau of the Pihyana Prefecture . Indrek Aru.
He also recalled that after the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine, the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia (Riigikogu) recognized the Russian Federation as a terrorist state.
In addition, it is noted that representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had more than once conversations with Reshetnikov and explained to him that he should stop justifying the military actions of Russia and the Kremlin regime in public activities. Contrary to earlier warnings, Reshetnikov did not change the rhetoric that was not in line with the values and inconsistent with the legal framework of Estonia. Therefore, Reshetnikov is recognized as a person posing a threat to the security of the state.
Previously, Moldova and Bulgaria and other Baltic countries began dismantling MPs on their territory.
In October 2022, Novaya Gazeta. Baltia” wrote that Reshetnikov condemned the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine, and also stated that he did not share the words of Patriarch Kirill about absolution for military personnel. The publication referred to the metropolitan’s letter, which he sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice of Estonia in response to a question about his attitude to the war.
This letter was also published on the website of the Estonian Orthodox Church, but now this letter is not on the website.
